Importance of Proper Barcoding and Labelling

Barcoding

When medications have a readable barcode on a product’s unit-of-use, suppliers are improving the efficiency of a hospital’s operations and the traceability of their products and driving safer medication management across the system as a whole. Barcode symbology is important. A GS1 Data Matrix barcode recommended for healthcare allows for the inclusion of a lot number and expiry date that further enhances the traceability of products which is critical in the event of a recall.
