Frequently Asked Questions

HealthPRO Canada is the national group contracting provider for healthcare, wholly owned by our membership, which is comprised of Shared Service Organizations (SSOs), Provincial and Regional Health Authorities, Hospitals and other public sector organizations. We maximize the buying power of our 1,300-member healthcare facilities, saving the healthcare system hundreds of millions of dollars on medical supplies, medications, equipment and food.

HealthPRO Canada aggregates the purchasing volume of our members across eight provinces and the territories, arranging national contracts for high quality products at the best price. HealthPRO Canada is not a supplier or a distributor; we do not hold inventory or operate warehouses. Members purchase directly from contracted suppliers at the HealthPRO Canada national price.

All HealthPRO Canada contract opportunities are publicly posted on www.biddingo.com/healthpro, a public procurement website open to all suppliers.

To help anticipate upcoming opportunities, HealthPRO Canada maintains contract schedules which are updated on a regular basis.

Pharmacy Opportunities

Materials Management Opportunities(Clinical, Capital Equipment, Support Services)

Nutrition and Food Opportunities

That’s not a problem, when you respond to an opportunity you will be able indicate which provinces you are able to supply.  If extending your reach is something you’d like to consider, you could partner with a distributor.

At HealthPRO Canada, patient care, quality and clinical acceptability of product is our priority, prior to obtaining pricing information.

Supplier submissions are scored according to rigorous criteria established by HealthPRO Canada’s team of professionals as well as practicing clinicians, business professionals and subject matter experts from across the country. Rebates offered in additional to competitive prices are used by HealthPRO Canada to fund the operations of running national contracts on behalf of member hospitals across the country. After covering operating expenses, all remaining rebate revenue (more than 80%) is returned to our members as dividends based on their participation in our contracts. These dividends enable healthcare facilities to fund important initiatives within their sites.

Suppliers include rebates in their competitive proposals for many reasons:

Efficiencies

Suppliers derive value from the efficiencies of doing business with HealthPRO Canada as we consolidate purchasing volumes across the entire country. Without a national group purchasing organization, suppliers would have to significantly increase resources required to manage hundreds of RFPs issued by individual hospitals, provincial health authorities and SSOs and the resulting contracts.

Contract commitment and compliance

HealthPRO Canada’s high levels of contract commitment and compliance ensure that suppliers receive the business they were awarded.

Layer of price confidentiality

Rebates allow suppliers to reward the large national purchasing volumes and the commitment HealthPRO Canada delivers without compromising higher margins on lower volume clients. They also see value in keeping their net price confidential from their competition.

Adherence to procurement regulations

Suppliers are confident in our adherence to all procurement regulations, including the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), and the Broader Public Sector (BPS) Procurement Directive, amongst others, regulations that ensure an open, fair and competitive process.

If a HealthPRO Canada member is committed to a contract for the products that you offer, they are limited to what they can purchase beyond the HealthPRO Canada contract.  They make a commitment to utilize the contract for a minimum of 80% of their requirements.

A member can use non-awarded suppliers for products that are not in scope of a HealthPRO Canada contract.  This is especially an opportunity for new technology/innovative products.
