67% of suppliers identify barcoding changes to support patient safety

Managing and administering medications within a healthcare facility is extremely complex. Without proper safeguards, errors can easily occur during prescribing, transcribing, dispensing, compounding, and in the most vulnerable part of the process where 38 per cent of errors occur, administering the drug to the patient.

To support members in improving patient safety via safe medication management, HealthPRO recently collaborated with GS1 Canada to host an educational and interactive webinar for suppliers on solving common barcode issues.

“The webinar really highlighted ALL of our barcoding issues that we've been struggling with.” — HealthPRO Member

Open to pharmacy members and pharmaceutical suppliers alike, the well-attended event saw more than 130 participants and was facilitated by HealthPRO’s Christine Donaldson, Vice President, Pharmacy, and featuring HealthPRO’s Tracy Gallina, Clinical Director, Pharmacy, and Rob Bell, Director, Healthcare, GS1 Canada.

Post-event survey responses indicated the webinar raised awareness for both members and suppliers around key barcoding issues, and in particular, 67% of suppliers noted they identified issues they intend to act on.

"This webinar was fantastic, really well done and engaging. I was extremely happy to see all the information covered with suppliers in attendance. As HealthPRO members, this helped us reinforce what we need, and this webinar presented it in a succinct and clear manner." — HealthPRO Member
