Pharmacy RFP coming August 2020

HealthPRO will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Hospital Specific Injectable (HSI) products on August 18, 2020, closing on October 1, 2020.

The broad range of products include medications that are primarily used in the hospital setting, and for which contract benefits such as competitive pricing, quality labelling and packaging that support medication safety recommendations, as well as assurance of supply are critically important to HealthPRO members.

This RFP includes 896 lines items within 405 contracts.

HealthPRO will hold webinars on August 5, 6 and 11 to highlight important changes in this RFP cycle and outline the new requirements for PH21 (invitations to these webinars have already been distributed).

Highlights:

Barcodes with Variable Data

  • As many members are moving forward with greater tracking and tracing of medications to the patient’s bedside, and implementing advanced hospital information systems with this capability, it has become more important to include variable data (lot number and expiry date) in your GS1-compliant barcode. For the PH21 Hospital Specific Injectables RFP, higher weighting will be given to products that incorporate variable data in the barcode.

Delivery of Proposals

  • Due to the current physical distancing requirements, suppliers are requested to provide HealthPRO with the name of the courier delivering parcels containing samples, as well as the parcel tracking information. A minimum of 24 hours' advance notice of shipment is required, and parcels must arrive at the HealthPRO office between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. ET.

Canadian Inventory

  • Suppliers will be requested to maintain Canadian inventory (inventory within Canada and suitable for sale and delivery to HealthPRO members) of 90 forward days of demand for critical drugs.

Health Canada Documentation

  • A copy of the Notice of Compliance (“NOC”), Drug Notification Form, or Medical Device License (“MDL”) as applicable will be required for all products submitted in the RFP.

Pre-Launch Products

  • Products that are approved, but not marketed as of the closing date of the RFP, must be accompanied by a letter indicating dates that production is scheduled and first of code date.

Substitute Supplier

  • Suppliers who bid but are not awarded the HealthPRO contract will be awarded a Substitute Supplier contract. This unique strategy will limit the price that can be charged to HealthPRO members if a Substitute Supplier is called upon when there is a supply disruption.
