Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator of the Tongue

Neuromodulation Stimulator for balance and gait deficits via stimulation of the tongue
PoNS™ (Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator) is a Health Canada-authorized, orally applied neurostimulation device used with physical rehabilitation to improve balance and gait in patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, MS, and mmTBI.
Delivered through a mouthpiece that rests on the tongue, PoNS™ activates brain pathways associated with motor control and balance. Treatment is administered under clinical supervision and performed primarily at home, allowing for scalable use across care settings.
Balance and gait impairments are among the most disabling outcomes of neurological disorders, with serious implications for patient independence and fall risk. Routine physiotherapy often falls short in addressing these deficits. PoNS™ Therapy offers a clinically supported, innovative approach to improving mobility and safety.
Clinically Validated Outcomes:
- 69.2% of stroke patients achieved ≥5-point gains in FGA
- 28% of stroke patients no longer at fall risk after 14 weeks
- 74% of mmTBI patients saw balance improvements
Benefits
- Portable, Home-Based Therapy: Reduces pressure on rehabilitation clinics while maintaining care continuity
- Non-Invasive Neuromodulation: Promotes neuroplasticity and functional recovery using tongue-based stimulation
- Supports Neurorehabilitation Goals: Aligns with priorities in stroke recovery, MS care, and TBI treatment
