HealthPRO held two virtual buyers forums for our pharmacy technicians and buyers at hospitals to advance learning, network and share ideas with colleagues. These sessions help our members make knowledgeable decisions when purchasing products, with an update on barcodes, presentations on key climate and supply chain concerns and sustainability, and group discussion of procurement best practices.

The event included expert speakers and a national audience of 120 members from across the country. Some of the presentation highlights included:

• HealthPRO’s Clinical Director, Tracy Galina, discussed barcoding in product evaluation and HealthPRO advocacy, including working with suppliers to add barcodes to all levels of packaging for the improvement of patient safety.

• Caitlin Roy, Clinical Support Pharmacist/Residency Coordinator and Kirsten Tangedal, Clinical Coordinator from Regina General Hospital discussed the development of an environmental committee and shared committee initiatives, successes and challenges, and future goals.

• Shellyza Sajwani, Inpatient Oncology Clinical Pharmacist from the Ottawa Hospital shared her knowledge on the impacts of climate change, including the role of pharmacy.

The sessions concluded with the sharing of ideas in a group discussion of procurement best practices. With positive feedback following the event, we look forward to hosting more of these sessions in 2023.
