HealthPRO Proudly Supports Canadian Patient Safety Week: October 29-November 2, 2018
Canadian Patient Safety Week (CPSW) is a national, annual campaign started by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) in 2005 to inspire extraordinary improvement in patient safety and quality throughout the healthcare system.
This year’s CPSW campaign is focused on medication safety, specifically, encouraging conversations to reduce the risk of harmful drug interactions.
Did you know?
- An estimated 37% of seniors in nine provinces received a prescription for a drug that should not be taken by this population.
- 2 out of 3 Canadians (66%) over the age of 65 take at least 5 different prescription medications – while 27% take at least 10 different prescription medications.
- In 2016, 1 in 143 Canadian seniors were hospitalized due to harmful effects of their medication.
HealthPRO, a proud supporter and gold sponsor of CPSW, has spearheaded several safe medication management initiatives including reinforcing the use of GS1 barcodes through contracting and implementing a national protocol to help hospitals mitigate potential medication errors related to pharmaceutical product changes.
From October 29-November 2, we invite you to visit HealthPRO’s LinkedIn page to learn more about our ongoing commitment, and the commitment of our members, to patient safety and safe medication management.
