HealthPRO Canada Provides Facility Support

Many Canadian hospital compounding facilities are outdated and require significant renovations in order to meet the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) standards. These facilities need safe, sterile environments to reduce the risk of contamination when medications are compounded, in order to provide a safe working environment for pharmacy staff, and to prevent harm to patients.

Renovations can be costly, lengthy and require extensive planning, human resources and expertise, to ensure the facilities are designed and function according to professional standards. Knowledge of the intricacies and potential pitfalls of building facility airflow is an important factor to ensure compounding equipment can operate as designed

How HealthPRO Canada can help

Under the HealthPRO Canada Telepharmacy and Professional Support contract with our partner Northwest Telepharmacy Solutions (NTS), members can obtain expert consulting services and roadmap planning for facility redesign to ensure compliance with NAPRA standards.

NTS has been providing NAPRA gap analysis, road mapping, and renovation design input for the last seven years to over a dozen hospitals, as well as large multi-site organizations and entire provinces. They’ve also partnered with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) expert consultants to provide a perspective for large-scale projects; thus, HealthPRO Canada’s contracted partners bring an expert working knowledge of both NAPRA and USP standards.

Why it matters?

Building sterile compounding facilities that comply with NAPRA and USP standards while meeting the evolving needs of tomorrow, is imperative for patient and pharmacy staff safety.
