American Poet Emily Dickinson once said, “March is a month of expectation” and I couldn’t agree more. March is the official start of spring, and the month holds the promise of new beginnings and expectations. We have plenty to celebrate this month: Employee Appreciation Day, International Women’s Day, Pharmacy Awareness Month and Nutrition Month.

It seems fitting that we kicked off this month with Employee Appreciation Day – because collectively, employees of our member and supplier organizations, and our own HealthPRO Canada employees, are at the core of what we do every day – helping frontline healthcare teams connect to the supplies and solutions they need to care for Canadians. We appreciate each of them, their hard work, their dedication and their commitment to improving healthcare across Canada.

The United Nations celebrated International Women’s Day (March 8) with the theme “Invest in women: Accelerate progress and at HealthPRO Canada, we are proud of the fact that women make up 81% of management roles and 56% of the executive leadership team. Being a certified “Great Place to Work®” means we are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace, where everyone’s voice is heard and their unique perspectives are appreciated.

Pharmacy Appreciation Month recognizes a helping profession that is at the core of my personal ethos, and we are proud to have pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on staff, here at HealthPRO Canada. They support hospital pharmacists across the country by coordinating critical product evaluations, including a review of quality, packaging, barcoding and more to ensure patient safety. This work, coupled with the increased scope of practice allowing pharmacists to assess and prescribe for minor ailments is one step toward supporting Canadian patients’ needs and alleviating some of the HHR pressures in the hospitals.

Lastly, it seems fitting that we share news of our enhanced Nutrition and Food Program during March – Nutrition Month. In a year where food cost inflation is at an all-time high, we are pleased to offer our members increased savings and access to more food products and categories, while continuing to benefit from supplier rebates with no change to their ordering process. You can learn more about our enhanced Nutrition and Food Program below.

It has been said that “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”, and I’d like to think of us balancing the strength of a lion and the grace of a lamb to guide us with resilience, wisdom and the expectation of brighter days ahead in Canada’s healthcare system.
