Elevate, Celebrate and Support: Highlights from HealthPRO Canada’s Women in Leadership Roundtable

HealthPRO Canada recently brought together more than 30 women from healthcare, industry, government and the broader public sector for a Women in Leadership Roundtable featuring the Honourable Stephen Crawford, Ontario’s Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement.
The roundtable created space for an open and candid conversation about the realities of leadership, the barriers women have navigated, the lessons that have shaped their careers and the people who helped open doors along the way.
Throughout the conversation, a central question emerged: how can today’s leaders help create more opportunities for the women who will lead next?
Learning from One Another
Two ideas echoed through the reflections shared after the event: “elevate, celebrate and support” and the reminder that “leadership is not a position, it’s how we act.” Together, they reinforced the importance of looking beyond individual achievement to consider how leaders can help others grow and succeed.
That responsibility can take many forms. Mentors help develop potential, sponsors advocate for advancement, and leaders use their influence to ensure others are considered for opportunities. These actions can shape career progression, succession planning and who has a seat at the table when important decisions are made.
Creating stronger pathways to leadership means recognizing talent, sharing opportunities and helping remove the barriers that can prevent women from reaching their full potential.
What Helps Women Advance
The roundtable explored what organizations can do to create environments where women can thrive and advance. Meaningful responsibility, access to decisionmakers, trust, flexibility and clear opportunities for growth all contribute to stronger leadership pathways.
An important takeaway was that confidence can grow through experience. Giving emerging leaders opportunities to contribute, make decisions and take on new challenges helps them build the skills and perspective needed to progress.
Supporting the next generation of women leaders requires more than good intentions. It calls for a deliberate effort to recognize potential, open doors and create conditions where women can succeed.
Continuing the Conversation
Advancing women in leadership is a shared responsibility that extends beyond individual organizations. The roundtable highlighted the value of bringing together women from different sectors to exchange perspectives, learn from one another and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The quarterly gatherings will build on these connections, creating further opportunities to share experiences and identify practical ways to strengthen leadership pathways across healthcare, industry, government and the broader public sector.
By continuing to elevate voices, create opportunities and support one another, leaders across sectors can help open more doors for the women who will lead next.
